How to Get Sunnova Solar in 6 Steps
Step 1: Solar Quote
Fill out our quick & easy solar quote form. A Sunnova rep will reach out and match you with a solar expert to discuss your energy needs, assess your home and generate an initial design and energy savings analysis.
Step 2: Approved Agreement
Sunnova will walk you through your solar energy plan to ensure you are satisfied with the terms before you sign.
Step 3: Site Survey & Final Design
After conducting a site survey, our in-house engineering team will review your home solar design and may adjust to ensure it meets our high standards of quality and performance.
Step 4: Permitting & Installation
Once finalized, your local solar installer will take care of all necessary permits and paperwork and schedule your solar installation.
Step 5: Utility Connection
Your city and/or utility will do a final inspection and grant Permission to Operate (PTO) to connect your system to the grid.
Step 6: Solar Power On
Your Sunnova solar system is now “in service.” You can count on us to keep it functioning optimally for 25 years* with support from our national network of service technicians.

There are many benefits of solar energy, including lower utility bills, energy independence, potential tax credits & incentives, protection from peak utility rates and more.
Since your home’s solar system will be tied to your electric provider (grid-tied), if you don’t have battery storage, your solar panels will not work during a power outage. This means you won’t be able to make or use solar energy while the grid is down. To have electricity during a power outage, you’ll need a solar + battery storage system.*
If you are a Sunnova customer with a loan/finance agreement on your home solar system, you may be eligible to claim the home solar tax credit.* This incentive is a dollar-for-dollar income tax credit of up to 30% of the cost of your solar installation and equipment.
If you have home solar panels, you’ll get two bills — one from your solar provider, and one from your utility company. In almost all cases, your system must remain connected to the local utility grid, which provides you with electricity at night or during times of low production. However, you can reduce your utility bill with solar panels for your home.
In most cases, if your residential solar panels generate more energy than your home needs at any given time, the excess energy will flow back to your utility. Your utility company may provide you with a credit for energy you send back to it.*
Yes, your home solar system will still capture and convert light into electricity during rainy or cloudy weather — however, you can expect solar production to be lower. So, if you live in an area that gets a lot of rain or has overcast days throughout the year, don’t rule out solar energy.
